Have you ever attempted to lose weight with a fad diet?

If you have, you may have seen some exciting short-term results, but they’re never sustainable for the long-term..

Most of the modern low-carb fad diets put your body into an unnatural state, such as ketosis (the metabolic state characterized by raised levels of ketone bodies in the body tissues, which is the consequence of a low-carb diets), which stresses your adrenal gland and creates long-term damage and isn’t sustainable as a lifestyle.

This is why I stress the importance of simple lifestyle changes. On my IGTV channel, I have a few videos about weight-loss. One of my favorite videos so far is the 5 Weight-Loss Tips video because it talks about simple lifestyle changes, not any insane weight-loss tactics that nobody wants to hear about.

That’s why they’re purely called diets, not lifestyle changes.

With the high-carb vegan lifestyle/plant-based diet, you can say goodbye to those unnatural symptoms and forget about being a slave to your caloric intake! When gaining weight on a vegan diet, it can be hard at times due to the low caloric-density of plants, but in terms of losing weight, the plants low caloric-density will make your weight-loss goals a heck of a lot easier.

For instance, have you ever seen someone eat 1000 calories of broccoli in one sitting before? The answer is most likely no, unless they had a freakishly large stomach that can hold down that volume of food. On the other hand, have you ever seen someone consume 1000 calories of cheese in one sitting? The answer to that is a big fat YES!

This is possible because cheese, a concentrated animal-product, is SO much more calorically dense than a plant food like broccoli.

Let’s compare 1 cup of broccoli to a 1 oz of American cheese:

1 cup of Broccoli 1 oz of American Cheese
Fiber 2.4 g 0 g
Total Fat .3 g 8.9 g
Protein 2.6 g 6 g
Carbohydrates 6.0 g 0 g
Total Calories 30.9 106

As you can see, even if you were only putting 1 oz of cheese on top of your food, that little bit of cheese will give you over three times the number of calories that a cup of broccoli would give you.

Not to mention that the cheese has zero fiber and zero carbohydrates, and we already know about one of the healthiest populations to walk Mother Earth, the Okinawans, and how they obtained 86% of their calories through carbohydrates, 9% from protein and only 6% of their calories came from fat.

Cheese is around 70% fat…

So, for those of you who are wanting to get those abs to show, it’s always good to remember that the fat you eat is the fat you wear. Since cheese is nothing but a glob of fat and acidic animal protein (casein), it’s easy to see that this man-made food is nothing but detrimental to ANY health/weight goal. Especially for you men, our fat stores usually build up around our stomach area while woman build the bulk of theirs around the hip and butt areas.

But why do people fall trap to low-carb fad diets?

For the next few paragraphs, I’m going to go in depth about some fad diets that a lot of people are falling trap to. It deserves to be brought up because so many of you have most likely either attempted one of them or have been victim to their advertisements.

A lot of low-carb fad diets, such as the Keto diet, recommend eating mostly fatty animal-foods like cheese and meats to put your body into a state of ketosis, the metabolic state I explained above. They do it because it helps them get their body into that metabolic state that burns fat stores as energy, instead of using the stored glycogen in our liver, which comes from the carbs you eat.

A lot of people fall victim to these diets because it seems REALLY appealing to eat a bunch of fatty foods and lose weight in a short period of time. The sad part is that all of this weight will come back as soon as you start eating carbohydrates again.. People usually maintain the diet until they accomplished their weight goals, but once they leave that state of ketosis, they quickly bloom back to the weight they started at! Sam doesn’t have any problems when it comes to maintaining a healthy weight and she literally eats more than me during most meals haha I’m not kidding! This is because it’s much harder to over-consume when you’re eating fruits and veggies that have a low caloric density.

Like I’ve stated at the beginning of this post, this state of ketosis, which is the goal of most low-carb diets, is an unnatural state for your body. It places your body under constant stress by activating your adrenal gland, which is in control of your fight or flight response. The state of ketosis will manipulate the way your hormones work and has a horrid effect on your cardiovascular system due to eating foods that are high in fat and cholesterol that clog up your arteries and put you at a much higher risk of having a heart attack or stroke, which is two of our leading cause of death in America.

Can you see why the Keto diet is nothing more than a fad diet that was created to help the sales of animal-products? The only reason it’s popular is because it signifies short and easy weight-loss while having the ability to chow down on greasy and fatty foods. There isn’t anything sustainable about eating a low-carb, high-fat/protein diet. You may lose some weight at the beginning due to your body utilizing ketone bodies to burn fat stores, but it’s still a ticking time bomb for your insides and is the most destructive diet for the environment.

Eating plants will make your life easy!

Now that we’re aware of the differences between a typical low-carb fad diets and a high-carb plant-based diet that is naturally low in fat, we can start looking at the benefits you can take advantage of while only eating plants!

  1. You’ll be able to eat MORE and stress LESS
  2. You’ll be eating high-carb foods that will fuel you in a sustainable manner
  3. Your body will feel “lighter” as it cleans itself from the built-up cholesterol in your arteries
  4. Your fiber intake will ALWAYS be adequate, so your body will always be naturally detoxing itself
  5. You can forget about over-eating as long as you’re eating mainly whole foods and not covering your meals with vegetable oils and fatty dressings
  6. The thought of eating cruelty-free will give you a better sense of well-being, and in most cases, add to your energy levels and karmic status
  7. Your increased energy levels will make it easier to find time and motivation to exercise

This list could go on forever. The main point of this post is that you don’t have much to worry about when you’re trying to lose weight on a vegan diet/lifestyle. It’s much harder to gain weight than lose weight, especially when you’re not eating foods that are drenched in vegetable oils.

So, unless you only eat fatty/processed plant foods like peanut butter, avocados, and salads that are drenched with vegetable oils, you shouldn’t have anything to worry about in terms of your weight-loss goals.

Once you start seeing the benefits, you’ll understand that there’s nothing to worry about.

I hope this post helped you learn about why low-carb diets are so prominent in today’s world, and why a plant-based lifestyle is simply the healthiest and easiest way to sustainably lose weight without making our body cry on the inside. I’m giving you a lifetime solution, not a short-term weight-loss program at the cost of your health. Remember this post next time you have a friend mention a low-carb diet. Now you’ll be able to help them stray away from the “diet trap” and help them adopt a LIFESTYLE that’ll not only do the same thing but is the most sustainable “diet” there is!
